DAY OF THE DEAD CERAMIC MASK WORKSHOPS

DAY OF THE DEAD CERAMIC MASK WORKSHOPS

ENJOY A DAY OF THE DEAD TWO-PART CERAMIC MASK MAKING ACTIVITY!

This activity is suitable for both adults and children.

Join artist Nicola Kyriakides at this spooktastic 3D ceramic mask-making workshop.

The Day of the Dead Ceramic Masks Workshops is split into two parts -  a making and a glazing workshop session and costs £20 per person (for a 2 session activity).

Inspired by Mexico’s Day of the Dead festival. During this two-part activity, you will delve into the stunning world of Day of the Dead artwork - exploring the rich, vibrant and stylised designs of Day of the Dead masks. Then you will get hands-on as you learn, step by step, how to create a 3D mask of your own.

You’ll get to grips with sculpting techniques, as well as scraffito – carving your inspired designs out of the clay as it becomes leather hard to create a stunning piece of work to be proud of.

Once finished, your work will be dried and bisque fired in the kiln ready for session two – glazing.

You’ll be introduced to a variety of glazing techniques and have the choice of a fantastic range of bright, bold glaze colours enabling you to bring your ceramic mask to life, using stunning images of Day of the Dead artworks to guide you.

Once complete the glazed works will be fired and showcased as part of a short exhibition in MBC's gallery space here at 29 Norfolk Street.

All participants will be invited to the unveiling, and once the exhibition is complete your work is yours to take home with you to proudly display!
